D is for Doppelganger.....

Oi....my time/energy is running short today, so the post for letter D isn't getting as much attention as I would have liked---- but, such is life

Doppelganger, a supernatural phenomenon most people are familiar with--- essentially a person's double (sometimes considered their alter-ego, sometimes considered a portent of bad times, sometimes considered the harbinger of death).

The name comes from the German loanword, Doppelganger (doppel= double ... ganger= walker).

The story we've all heard since childhood is that everybody has a twin somewhere in the world. And, if you subscribe to the notion of there being an infinite number of universes, then, it might even be safe to assume that there are several copies and/or versions of yourself in other universes out there---though, let's not talk about the doubles made of moon-cheese.

Look Once, Look Twice

See me here,
See me there,
See my doubles
walking everywhere.

Here I am,
There I go,
You're sure you saw me
only once before?

  1. would it still technically be cannibalistic if you were to eat your moon-cheese doppelganger?

    1. Nope! I say, by virtue of the fact that they're made of cheese and not flesh, it isn't cannibalistic---- but, that's just my opinion. I'm sure this comment will start a small grass-roots campaign to save our moon-cheese doubles.... ***moon-cheese people are people too*** >_<

  2. I had an anthropology professor who was, to say the least, really out there. One of the things she talked about in one of our classes was the concept of the time twin, which is similar to a doppelganger. She was giving all these examples of supposed real-life time twins.

    1. Hmmmm.... I haven't heard of time twins, but, I guess I could see how it would be similar to Doppelgangers... I bet that professor had LOTS of interesting stories to tell, lol.

  3. Kudos for writing a real post when your energy was at low tide. I'd have cheated. Mine would have looked like this:

    Doppelganger: A double.
    Doppelganger: A double.

But that wouldn't have been nearly as interesting as what you've got here. :) You know, some of those old cabinet card photos are creepy. The photography is tack-sharp, but the people held stone-still. Makes for a strange, surreal image...

    1. Thanks, Joe.... I was tempted to cheat, but, once I start getting behind, I stay behind :-S

A-Z Reflections, year 4....

A-Z blogging challenge for 2014 has come and gone, seemingly without my realizing it. And, though I fell behind once or twice toward the end, I finished this year's challenge right on time. Really, I can't believe it's already over. I feel like I just finished my post for letter A... Year 4, for this blogger, was a far cry from the tortured state of despondency that was most of  Year 3 -- I'll not mention the irony of this year's focus on death being easier to blog about than last year's foray into supernatural creatures, we'll leave that for my therapy sessions *ahem* As always, A-Z brought with it, not only 26 days of unbridled and far-reaching knowledge (disguised as entertaining and thought-provoking blog-posts), but a chance to connect with new faces while reconnecting with familiar faces--who had perhaps drifted away--from A-Z's past.  I am always amazed by the ingenuity and inspiration that comes from lumping a couple thousand folk...

Bitter Honey

Weaving dreams of beguiling gold, a future's price for happiness. What secrets do you, determined, hold? asks the summer wind's soft caress. A guarded name, a hidden hope. Spinning wheels clutching time, grasping straw that falls away, What dreams may come, we soon may find, won't recall at end of day. A cherished life, a memory lost.

Battle Storm...

Storm's coming, war's brewing, rolling clouds choke the light, Cannon's rumble, bodies tumble, exploding stars steal the night. The heavens clap, the battle's snap, sinking deep the wounded fall, The lightning's spark, the thunder's hawk, drinking in the warring pall. Soldiers crawl, the ranks sprawl, beneath the wall of death, Eyes clenched tight, in teeth-bared fight, bequeathed their final breath.
