2013--- A Writer's Year in Review.....

I've done some of these year-end posts before---mostly in answer to whether or not I managed to fulfill my resolutions for the year. But, this will be the first post I've done that really puts everything out there, in black-and-white, that I've accomplished/failed at over the last 365 days. I didn't really make any specific resolutions for 2013. I knew I'd never meet them anyway---which is strange since I enjoy challenges. You'd think I could rise to my own challenge, but..... I've yet to ever, EVER, achieve a single year's resolution(s). Oh, I'll start with every good intention and earnestly fight to maintain whatever resolution I'm attempting until it becomes habit, but, it has always been for naught. So, this year...or, at this end-of-year, I thought I'd try something different--- I've never really catalogued the material I've produced in a specific time-frame--- outside of challenges that mandated I do so. But, I really wan...

Say again? Just what am I supposed to do with this.....

Annnnnd, the randomness of my delirium continues...... clearly, sick people should have all means of writing/communicating taken away from them---- ugh! At some point, in the last couple of days, I apparently created a Word document entitled---- Brainstorm Mash-up. The only thing in the document was a list of words--13 words/phrases, actually: Goldfish Hospice Fantasy-genre Pentagon Official Murder Blunt Force Trauma Disheveled Appearance Dazed Poison Shoe In Hand Dump Truck Landfill Cover-up I know the words/phrases came from several articles I was reading, but, I don't know why I collected them. I would, however, like to create something with them.....maybe a Fantasy Murder-Mystery with a Goldfish as the prime suspect??? No?? Well, I'm sure something will come from it---- In other writerly news--- I'm pretty happy to see that at least one of my New Year's goals has made to the end of the first month (this beats my two-week record by two weeks...

What to write when you don't know what to write.....

One of the resolutions I made for this year was to update this blog three times a week--- more would be fine, but at minimum I was supposed to add something every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We'll see how long this lasts... Most years I don't make resolutions because I'm horrible at following through with them. It starts well, becomes an earnest habit--- but, somewhere along the way, without my even noticing, the new habit is lost and is replaced by the even longer-standing habit of not having done it or no longer doing it. It isn't that the plans I have for myself are too lofty, or that whatever I've planned was so dreadfully horrible as to make me cringe every time it came to perform the task. The habit just stops, slipping out of the daily/weekly routine so quietly as to not make me aware of its leaving. And its absence is never strong enough to make me realize something important is missing. It is usually some weeks or months before I remember that there wa...

Beginning at the end, an ending where we begin....

Tonight will mark the end of one year and the beginning of a new one. 2011 will be ushered in, fresh and expectant while 2010 will be carried out, feeble and worn. It's strange, the need for the passing of time to be marked, by the hour, by the day, by the year..... Even if we never knew what a Wednesday was, the days would still pass. If we'd never known that today was the end of the year, we would never have been surprised or amazed at its passing. This is also the time to mark other new beginnings--- the resolutions each person makes with themselves, whether spoken or unspoken, are laid out at the threshold of the new year (with every honest intention of carrying them through). For some, they want to lose weight or lose a bad habit, like smoking... For others, they want to gain something-- a promotion, a fat savings account.... Whether you want to lose something or add something, just the idea that you have taken the time to decide on something to change about yourse...
