Baby Dracula and Other Randomness.....

It was a random kind of day--- woke up with a headache (though, that isn't as random as I'd like), took some pain meds and went to work....

Don't know if it was the headache, the pain meds, a general lack of sleep, or a combination of all those things, but I found myself in a bit of a brain-fog--- for lack of a better term--- for several hours. Not my most productive afternoon.

I'm prone to solemn/melancholy/perhaps depressive moods---part, my Piscean nature and part, circumstance---where I am reluctant to interact with people and generally find myself wishing I could be as far away from people as possible. This wasn't that kind of mood.

No, this was the kind of brain-fog that usually accompanies one-too-many drinks, or a decongestant during flu season. But, all I took was Ibuprofen.... so, I don't know.

All I could do was marvel at how odd it was to feel like I was heavily sedated without having ingested a sedative....

It all finally came to a head when I was sitting in the office with another manager, counting a morning-shift till. He was filling out paperwork. And, I started picking up some different bills, holding them up to the light, flipping them over and repeating the process. Did this with a one-dollar bill and a five-dollar bill. When I got to the twenty-dollar bill, I became fascinated with the watermark impression of Andrew Jackson's face. I stared at it for a few moments and then, with complete and unfaltering seriousness, I said: "I don't think I'd ever want my face as a watermark."

The other manager, of course, laughed---because how else do you respond---and said, "Could you be any more random?"

Probably.

I wasn't really trying.

Later, as I was putting away some children's books, I came across a collection of "Baby Lit" books... they're relatively new on the market, they introduce young children to some classics before they'll ever be able to understand them--- though I think it's a cool idea, I know the concept plays more to the parents. What educated parent wouldn't want to teach their infants about 'Romeo and Juliet'?

The classic that truly caught my eye, though, was 'Dracula' by Little Master Stoker. It is a counting primer book where toddlers learn their numbers by counting garlic flowers and coffins...er, "boxes." I have to admit, I loved this one. Though, I couldn't help reading the captions in the voice of the Count from Sesame Street---- 1 castle, ha ha ha....

Needless to say, it rounded out my random day splendidly.

Though, now I find myself wanting to write an infant-vampire story... complete with diabolic diapers and blood bottles.

  1. You have to think the Count inspired the premise for this one. I mean, coincidence? Nah.

So no Demers watermark, eh? How 'bout your likeness on product packaging? And then, what would you endorse--other than a book you penned?

For what it's worth, I struggle with the same sense of melancholy. And I sequester myself, when life permits. Maybe it's our back-brain trying to shut out stimuli, sift through the noise, and find order in all that randomness. Don't know, don't know...

    1. I think the Count inspired a lot of things.... I'm just sayin'
Annnd, no...no Demers watermark---- I'm not even sure I'd want my face on my books... Maybe I can go incognito like "Lemony Snicket".

Ditto with the sequestering. I'm sure our brains have a very good reason for shutting down the way they do...mine just hasn't told what that is yet :-(

  3. I wouldn't want my face to be a watermark either (nor, I suspect, does the world). Meanwhile, I MUST procure that Dracula book. MUST!!! :-)

A to Z reflections....

Another A to Z challenge comes to an end--- another collection of posts and poetry have been written, another deep breath of relief is released. For my fellow bloggers that survived as well, it's another 'challenge-completed' notch carved into the writing desk. I've come to enjoy my yearly foray into the world of all things alphabetical. This was my third year, though it was only the second year I had a workable theme (which made the challenge substantially easier than the first year I attempted this challenge.) And, though my first year was difficult because my focus was so scattered, I found this year was more  difficult because I lost the enthusiasm that came with the first year excitement----excitement which helped me plug along until the end of the challenge. Year 3 was a success in the sense that I completed the challenge, though, this was the year that almost wasn't---- Somewhere about a third of the way through the challenge, I seriously considered

A-Z Reflections, year 4....

A-Z blogging challenge for 2014 has come and gone, seemingly without my realizing it. And, though I fell behind once or twice toward the end, I finished this year's challenge right on time. Really, I can't believe it's already over. I feel like I just finished my post for letter A... Year 4, for this blogger, was a far cry from the tortured state of despondency that was most of  Year 3 -- I'll not mention the irony of this year's focus on death being easier to blog about than last year's foray into supernatural creatures, we'll leave that for my therapy sessions *ahem* As always, A-Z brought with it, not only 26 days of unbridled and far-reaching knowledge (disguised as entertaining and thought-provoking blog-posts), but a chance to connect with new faces while reconnecting with familiar faces--who had perhaps drifted away--from A-Z's past.  I am always amazed by the ingenuity and inspiration that comes from lumping a couple thousand folk

Remember and Return.....

I've settled my heart in the memory of your sigh, the subtle caress of your lips. I've eased my mind's worry in the warmth of your smile, the soft embrace of your kiss. But, the time of our parting has been of a length, that I scarce can recall your words' sound. And, I fear in the depths of this consuming absence, your passions withheld, your spirit's now bound. I have not the strength to fight such a foe, as wild and untamed as the sea. I have not the will to stand at your door, and demand your decision to be, As one or the other, the sea or my love, I know I would fail to win thee. My only request, when you've ventured enough, Remember! And, return unto me.
